Fireman and Driver
I wanted to explore what their friendship was like before our main plot. I'll probably include this somewhere in the main story. I also wanted to try my shot at a more RWS feeling writing style
1952
The fireman was flung forward in the cab as their engine came to an abrupt stop at the station.
After steadying himself against the cab door he turned to face his crew mate.
"Must you break so abruptly, driver?"
The moustached man laughed.
"Why, do you know a better way to break, fireman?"
"Indeed I do! I'll show you at the next station!"
Soon they heard the stationmaster blow his whistle, the driver held his hand out
"go on then Tony. You drive, I'll fire."
Tony humfed triumphantly, handing over his shovel.
"I bet you've forgotten how to fire by now Bob!"
They heard another (rather angry) second whistle from the stationmaster, and they set off down their branch line.
"Stations approaching!" Bob called out, standing up from the firebox.
"I can see that."
"Well go on then! Show me what you got. I'll warn you, he's a troublesome breaker".
An annoyed and muffled "HEY!" Was heard from Thomas.
As they approached the station Tony slowly put the break on, and after a moment. They came to a stop, and Thomas weeshed steam.
The two men glanced out the window, and muttered a "oh" simultaneously.
A stationmaster walked up to them,
"Wonderful job driver, but would you mind stopping AT the platform?"
Tony nodded and sheepishly reversed to let the passengers off.
Bob handed him his shovel back and laughed.
"See? Not so easy is it?" Tony sighed.
"I supposeā¦ though you've been trained! I haven't!"
"Oh I should know better then?"
"Yes!"
"Well why don't I teach you how to actually drive?"
"Well I -... What?"
The stationmaster blew his whistle, and Bob took the break off, and opened the regulator to let Thomas roll out.
"Well? May as well learn from the best!"
Tony smirked, "I didn't know Charlie Sand was here."
He got promptly elbowed in the side.
